The Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) has posted the agenda for the board meeting on Tuesday evening, starting at 6:00 p.m. at the CVHS building behind the district offices located at 1402 E. Janss Rd in Thousand Oaks. Here are some noteworthy items on the agenda. These items are not comprehensive.

  1. Election of members of the Measure I Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee
    • Business Organization Member: Jordan Lippell
    • Parent/Guardian Member: Cindy Liu
    • Parent Organization Member: Karen Sylvester
    • Senior Citizens’ Organization Member: Tony Gitt
    • Taxpayer Organization Member:  Marshall Denninger
  2. Updates to Sexual Health and HIV Prevention Instruction (information item)
    • Adds gender identity and gender expression
    • Adds affirmative consent instruction
    • Changes previous Opt-In process to Opt-Out
    • Adds Human Rights Campaign sites to Management Resources
    • District is choosing to not allow opt out for instruction in gender, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation. Editor’s Note: It appears that this lack of an opt-out is NOT required by law. The law does not require that districts offer an opt-out, but also does not explicitly prohibit districts from offering an opt-out.
  3. Censure of Sandee Everett (information item) – Shall the Board of Education create a Board Ad-Hoc Committee to write a censure resolution regarding Board Member Everett’s conduct as reported by community members?  Editor’s Note: No details are provided on the agenda item, but this is likely related to the social media storm of Jenny Fitzgerald supporters condemning Sandee Everett’s participation and speech at the event entitled Conference on Public and Private School Options on 8/10/19
  4. Censure of Jenny Fitzgerald (information item) – Shall the Board of Education create a Board Ad-Hoc Committee to write a censure resolution regarding Board Member Fitzgerald’s conduct as reported by community members? Editor’s Note: No details are provided on the agenda item, but this is likely related to the fact that many of Mrs. Everett’s supporters felt that Mrs. Fitzgerald’s social media comments about the event and Mrs. Everett’s speech were intentional misrepresentations and discriminatory.
